Ischyrhiza
Ischyrhiza or “root fish” was a prehistoric shark that lived during
the Cretaceous period, about 145-65 million years ago. Ischyrhiza was approximately
7 feet in length and may have weighed as much as 200 pounds. Ischyrhiza was
an ancestor of the modern “saw-sharks”. It is believed by some researchers
that Ischyrhiza’s diet did not consist of fish, but rather smaller marine
animals such as crustaceans and worms that resided at the bottom of the sea
floor.
