Falcatus

Falcatus

Falcatus is an extinct prehistoric shark that lived during the early Carboniferous Period. It grew 10-12 inches in length and it is believed that its diet consisted of small shrimp. Falcatus had a hook-shaped crest which may have been used to attract a possible mate. Only the male Falcatus had these hook-shaped crests. Falcatus lived during the time of larger prehistoric sharks such as Edestus and Helicoprion. Fossil remains of Falcatus have been discovered in the Bear Gulch Beds of Montana.
